It's my understanding that the movie only portrays PART of the book and there will be a second movie that completes the story. Can't say I'll rush out and see the movie but might give it a shot if it ever makes it to Netflix.

What gave it away? The fact that it is titled "Atlas Shrugged Part 1"?

I saw it a couple days ago, movie is ok. But, if you liked Atlas Shrugged you need to see it. If you don't know anything about Atlas Shrugged its still worth watching (not in the theaters). If you're a democrat you are probably going to really really really really really hate it.

The acting was OK, the views of Rand were a bit overstated... but I guess they have to be.

As far as the monologues... could you imagine a 75 page speech in movie form?! Wouldn't happen.

Sadly, the movie is likely the only way that the majority of the population would've been exposed to it give the literacy level of the country :/ (barely short-circuited pub ed rant averted :/)
We were talking about the literacy level in our English class the other day (yay end of the semester and only 1 paper left to write- lack of productivity in class). Apparently a UCONN basketball member was giving a TV interview recently and commented about a book he had just read: "Yeah, it was the first book I ever read". My teacher's opinion was if you graduate from college without ever having read a book, your degree is a sham. I have to agree.

That still seems like a depressingly low standard. How about: if you get admitted to college without already having read many books, the college is a sham?
