The problem is there are too many good people working for me to be comfortable with a "favourites" list. I have to add Pedro Almodóvar, then the next guy, and the next, and pretty soon it's a list of everyone who directed or wrote a film I really liked.

Maybe the real problem is that I also like to read books.

Nah, that can't be the problem. Maybe the real problem is the existence of the real world.

Who's working to solve that problem?

Considering the myriad of films that come out on a weekly basis, I see nothing wrong with a list of a couple dozen favorite directors.
