Goin' to the movies with Knee: Part 2 - Thank You For Smoking
At first, I thought this movie was going to be one of those "Tell you how to feel" movies, which I hate. I was glad to say that it was, in fact, pretty open ended and didn't beat you over the head with messages. This movie isn't about promoting messages, it's more about promoting skepticism. The American public are so quick to denounce smoking that sometimes it's almost absurd. The real message of this movie is to make your own decision, don't just buy into whatever feeling everyone else has.
The movie starts out on a talk show with our protagonist, Nick Naylor, a spokesman for Big Tobacco, defending the industry against an unruly crowd of nay-sayers. Using his skills of persuasion, he manages to subdue the crowd and even turn some of them onto his side. Throughout the film, we see similar events take place as Nick Naylor uses his skills to promote Big Tobacco.
The reason this film works is because it shows us the other side. Nick Naylor is just a man, not an evil, slimy spokesman bent on the sales of cigarettes. Nick Naylor isn't exactly a great guy, mind you, but he's human nonetheless. While I did sometimes feel like some of the characters were stretched, I understand that this is a political satire and the real lesson should derive from the plot, not the characters. With that said, I got a good chuckle out of this movie on several occasions, and would definitely recommend it if you don't get offended easily.

Knee your reviews aren't bad but they're short as all fuck. Write more.
