    Computer goes bad

Right, so one of the office computers at the station is infected badly, super fucking badly. We're talking trojans, worms, even child porn proxy servers out the ying yang.

The reason being we never had an AV or firewall on there to begin with. My tech guy doesn't like them. I can understand that, I guess, for his computer since he is a safe browser, but on office computers that other people use (including Mac users who aren't used to dealing with safe browsing)?

He did DL a AV to try and clean up the computer. However, he downloaded one that scans, finds stuff, and then says, "Please pay to activate and clean your computer."

So, right now, it's sitting at 33 infections with a non functioning firewall and a non-functioning AV.

I can't pull up a browser on it to DL useful stuff for one, and for two, I can't have it connected because it will use the ENTIRE bandwidth of our connection to distribute child porn.

I'm currently in a computer lab trying to get malwarebytes and avira or kapersky. That being said, so many essential services and dll are infected that I would rather just nuke from orbit. I don't have the winxp disk on hand though, so I'm going to try this the hard way.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

yeah, that's what I want to do bunni. Don't have access to my Laptop or I'd be doing that now.

viruses also deleted the setup dll so I cank't even install malwarebyyes or avira. waiting on my tech guy to wake up so i can get a copy of linux off my lkaptop. (we're having to share a key to the station at the moment.)

and a big fuck you to the mac user who let the computer get infected.

Is there anything of importance on it? If not, wipe that thing out and start over. It will be much better in the long run.

Although, Bunni's way seems more fun with the T-bagging and all.

    Re: Computer goes bad

Well, I checked some files. What I would actually have to do is to do a reinstall of Windows XP...but I'm going to install Ubuntu I think.

    Re: Computer goes bad

Wow, no firewall no AV. Thats like calling for a bus to come to pick you up then stepping out on the street and wondering why a bus hit you. Dang, sorry man it happened; I will blame it on the IT guy. "The Tech Guy doesn't like them"; tell him we are in the digital age not the analog or wood age. Any sort of business/home should have a firewall; hell a managed switch would do. Just wipe it or do what bunni said and get a AV at least or/both firewall...

    Respectfully,
    h7g6f5
