Kanati's Movie-o-meter #10 - Fast Five
Fast Five. The next iteration in the Fast and the Furious movie franchise. Now I'm a little biased here because I'm a fan of the series. Excepting the ridiculously bad second movie, I've liked each and every one of these movies. This one I saw at an IMAX for extra added punch... and 12000 watts of sound that was nearly painful at times.
The movie starts exactly where the fourth movie left off. With Dom (Vin Diesel) headed to prison and his friends and family speeding up behind the bus ready to break him out. We then move ahead in time a bit to Rio. A bad guy is established, some good...er... guys are established (Dwayne The Rock Johnson), and the race is on to see who's going to come out on top. The evil Brazilian rich dude, the DEA, or Dom's band of car maniacs. The movie plays out like a cross between ocean's eleven and the other fast and furuious movies. The people comprising Dom's merry band are from all of the other movies (yes even #2).
Like the other movies there are some pretty outrageous stunts that defy all logic and physics. But as long as you take your suspension of disbelief pills before seeing it and just enjoy the ride, you won't mind at all. Dom is constantly being chased by both the evil bad guy and the DEA team led by The Rock. Eventually we get to see a slobberknocker between the rock and Vin Diesel. And I thought Vin Diesel was a large guy. But when you see the rock standing nose to nose with him you have to blink and go W. T. F. The Rock is HUGE in comparison. So for anyone that's ever wondered who would win in a fight... Superman or the Hulk? Here's your chance to see two of the best action stars on the screen together beating the living crap out of each other. That was worth the price of admission right there.
Throughout it all I thought they were setting this up to be the last in the series. And it may well be. But if you go, stick around through the credits. There's an extra little clip at the end that... if you are a fan of the series... will make you go "whaaaaaaaat!?!?" In a good way. I love those little after the credits clips like Nick Fury in Iron Man... Tony Stark in Incredible Hulk... That kind of thing. But I've never had one make me go "ZOMG REALLY!?" like this one did.
In short. I really liked it. It may be the best of the series short of the first. But then... As I said. I'm biased on this one.

Re: Kanati's Movie-o-meter #10 - Fast Five
I saw the movie, i would say the 2nd best in the series just under the first one. Very good though and the rock i flipping huge. He may be bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Barbarian .
Will be buying this on blu-ray.

A little box office update here... 125 million dollar budget for this movie...
Domestic gross thus far... 140 million
International gross thus far... 185 million
I think 325 million total thus far should ensure more fast, furious action in the coming years.
