Thread: Courts are screwed up!

Back in January I was involved in an accident with my bus vs. another bus. The police determined the other driver was intoxicated, and arrested her (rightly so!)
Come March, I had to go to court as a witness for the state, just to find out the other driver was playing games and got a public defender that day (to delay the proceedings since she was facing 90 days in jail). So, I had to go back yesterday. 4 charges against her (Driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, and driving under the influence of alcohol), and she gets a deal to plead guilty on the DUI with probation, $250 fine (payable in installments), and a MADD counseling session. Oh, and she has her commercial drivers license back after all this crap.
WTF?!?!?!?! I think I found my new study path in school- pre-law (government and politics) so I can be a prosecutor and put people IN JAIL!!!
Really... PBJ for injuring someone, causing $35,000 in damage to two buses, and recklessly endangering the lives of students?

wow... I bet ill get more for doing 86, on a 3 lane highway, far left lane, literally only ONE other car on the road (far right lane) 40-50 meters ahead of me, clear day, 3/4-1.5 MILES of visibility (AWESOME visibility). Aside from a single ditch and concrete rail on far right lane (which the officer had perfectly positioned his car behind, and i mean PERFECTLY, inches off and he'd been visible), nothing for miles, either side of the highway to obstruct view into the side skirts, so if there was a dear, you'd see it LOONNNNNNGGGGG before it even thought about stepping foot onto the highway.

Reckless endagerment is one thing, but ONLY going fast? Seriously? The only thing unexpected that could have happened is:

1. A dear jumps out of the ditch on the hard right lane,
   
   • I'd have 2 lanes to maneuver
2. Other car, blows a tire/ hits an invisible-concrete poll, decelerating to 0mph instantaneously
   
   • He'd have to roll over 2 lanes into mine, in which case, i still had 40-50 METERS on him, ample time to react and maneuver, would at most, be able to occupy two lanes sideways, still leaving me one lane + sideskirts (which are damn near a lane themselves) to maneuver.

Its all tradition, give a ticket for going over the speed limit (which are calculate for worst case conditions, aka rush hour merging)

You know what really blew? Within two days of getting that ticket:

1. Saw two mustangs drag race on highway in RUSH HOUR (they occupied far left and middle lane, slowed to 35-45 for a while to get space ahead of them), had to be doing 120-130mph
2. Lady swerving lanes, either on phone or texting WITH CHILD/INFANT IN BACK SEAT!
3. Another Lady (aggressive, ghost (no blinker) lane switching), came within INCHES of merging INTO a school bush FULL of children

But really, your gonna get me, for going fast in perfect conditions? Bleh. BLEH.
