RIP Gil Scott-Heron
Gil Scott-Heron has passed away. An influential and talented man, his music always puts a smile to my face. Thank you Gil Scott for all the great funky music. You will be missed.

yeah, heard about it yesterday and it floored me. It's kind of crazy because he just came out of this long musical hiatus. His album that released last year is amazing and has a wonderful feel on it. Something about it makes me want to listen to the story he had to tell, the sounds of it already sound old and classic. Still haven't got around to listening to the older stuff. That's gonna happen this weekend. 62 is still really young

I got introduced to Gil Scott Heron last year through his new album. It was full of dark and depressing stuff like this. This is actually a poem, spoken word. You may not have the patience to pay attention to every single line, but it is very interesting and I can sympathize with some of what he says "Should have been sleeping instead of turning the stack of records over and over", we've probably all been there listening to music till dawn, wanting to do things (in his case write a letter). Anyway I came across that youtube video again after listening to another poem he did back in the day (that Kanye West just so happened to sample last year too)
I like the part where he criticizes people who want freedoms like smoking and prostitution and says he's fine with just a good home, wife, kids, and food to feed them at night
