Kanati's Movie-o-meter #13 - X-Men First Class
Ok, so I'm a comic book nerd. I've been looking forward to this movie ever since it was announced. The movie follows the early years of Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr as they form the original X-Men. Now they didn't follow the orignal story very closely at all. But what they did was ground it in pieces of the original story, solidify it in real events of the 60s, and created their own world both separate from the comics and familiar enough that fans should love it.
The story, is basically about how the X-Men come into being, along with the origins of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (though they are never called that) and the fight against the Hellfire Club that is trying to create a nuclear war behind the scenes of the actual cuban missile crisis as a backdrop. There's a recruiting scene. A training montage. etc etc. Everything you would expect from this kind of a movie, and yet it still remains "fresh". It's likely the best comic book movie since Dark Knight a few years ago.

agreed, I thought this movie was very well done. I'm a little bit of a comic book nerd but not so much with the x-men, so I wasn't sure how canon it was. Very good movie though in my opinion.
I'm really hoping Captain America is awesome, comes out 7-11.

I'm a huge X-Men fan. I grew up on Marvel and Star Trek.
They creatively worked canon inconsistencies into a real world / plausible Xmen beginning. Mystique was a cutie, the killables were killed, and the heroes saved the day only to split with the baddies. Over all a pleasurable watch.
I give it an 8/10 on the basis that there was no Stan Lee cameo, and no ending teaser, thus showing us it was just a marvel sponsored film and not a true marvel production. However, I would see it twice in theatres, something I haven't done for a movie since Watchmen came out.
Going to see Kung Fu Panda 2 this weekend. Being a Jack Black and a huge Martial Arts officianado I hope to enjoy it, though i'm expecting a rehash of the first one with a different bad guy.~The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all worlds. The pessimist fears it true.
I just say "I like cookies!" and leave it at that.~

I really enjoyed the movie but I won`t be truely happy till they bring Apocalypse onto the screen.
One thing I found odd was when Mag and Prof went and seen that girl (pheonix) in the beginning of xmen 3 but it didnt balance with the end of xmen 5 .Prof was shot at the end of 5 but he was walking in the beginning of 3 odd error I guess.
