Florida Fisherman
Anyone here fish in Florida? What do you fish for? Where do you fish? What do you fish out of?
Ever since selling my boat because of everything freshwater drying up, I have been going crazy wanting to be out on the water. I am looking at getting into a Bay Boat for fresh and salt water fishing. I know we have some Floridians on here. All of you cant possibly be computer nerds.

Boat, ocean, and whatever will bite. I dont eat fish so its more of catch and release for me. Caught a nice grouper a couple weeks ago. However that was the first time i went fishing in a couple years. So far the best things i've caught with a pole 3.5 ft hammer head and a 3 ft gator. Hard to say which was more pissed off about it.

I do a lot of fishing in Tampa Bay. I will fish from the Skyway Bridge and fish my way in with the tide. The bridge is a great place for fishing due to the current. Lots of big fish in the channel. We also have a few rock piles that are usually good for Snapper.
I do a middle grounds trip once/year. This past year we were out for Red Snapper as it was just before the close of the season. Caught a couple Gags and Reds when we were out there too, but the Snapper were just massive. The middle grounds boat I go out on leaves out of New Port Richie, but there are several other boats that go out of Clearwater. They have some decent day trips that will take you out over some Grunt and possibly some Gags if you can get a seat on the back of the boat.
I haven't been doing as much fishing this summer. I have been taking every good fishing day as a day out on the jet skis. I like to fish when it gets cooler.

Re: Florida Fisherman
Knowing where you live, a cheap way to get into some fun fishing is to buy a used kayak off of craigslist and start flats fishing for trout/redfish.
The tackle is small, the fight can be intense, and you have such a wide variety of inshore options near where you live. A short'ish drive to the coast and you can be thick in the reds, and you can always toss the kayak into a fresh water pond or river if you want.

Or go offshore on a jet ski, like Jet Ski Brian!

He is a good guy that takes great photos. Check out so of his pictures on The Hull Truth. I used to fish off of a ski regularly.
I normally fish out of Cedar Key or Suwanee. Pretty mush that whole area there. Used to go to the keys every year for lobster season. I haven't done that in a while. I would like to hit up some SKA tournaments. I have fish a red, trout and bass tournaments. Time for something a little bigger.
