Thread: Soo.... Any photographers out there?

I am no photographer, by any means, but I did just upgrade my Canon Rebel XT to the new T3i. What a difference going from 8mp to 18mp!!! It also features the movable screen, the mic port, and can control remote flashes and records HD video. It really is a great camera. My girlfriend is really the photographer.

We have a few lenses and accessories:

18-55mm IS II (package lens)
55-250mm 4-5.6 IS Zoom telephoto
18-135mm 3.5-5.6 IS
Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash
Dolcia Carbon Fiber tripod (do not remember the model)

I am a novice to say the least. I can't afford a good camera, but I have figured out how to manipulate my point and shoot to come up with some decent photographs. You have inspired me to take my camera and disappear into the Texas hill country tomorrow

Holy shit! 83 photos is impressive! Nice job. I'm curious as to what you used to stitch them? Did you use Photoshop or did you use another specialized program? Did you have to stitch any of it manually?

Well the trick is that a multi-row pano isn't any different from a normal one. It is all just stitching. I used photoshop to automate a lens and vignetting removal, then I manually stitched it together each row at a time. Then I used the auto tool on the final 3 rows (photoshop used 20 GB of ram/pagefile during this process, it took 12 hours of computing time).

I don't wanna brag, but as far as doctoring photos and painting using photoshop I am quite good. I would show the before editing pano, but I no longer have the 120 GB photoshop file....

Gear: Canon 5D, 70-200mm f2.8 L, 24-70mm f2.8 L, 17-40mm f4 L, Canon Mafrotto pod with Gitzo ball head.
Light Sources: Alien Bees 800s, Visatek 1600s(? Cant remember lol)with pocket wizards, Large rectangle softbox, bounce cards, barn doors, grid, small octobox / umbrellas, window light, diffused sun and direct sun, Canon 580s.

Nice lenses. The next one I am looking at getting is either a super wide or something in the 200mm range. I probably want the super wide more, but depends what I find a deal on when I am looking.

That's definitely a studio setup; I haven't done a non-location photoshoot yet, but I also haven't invested in any of the equipment necessary. I have a really small lowe-pro bag that barely fits my spare 50mm lens with the camera, trying to keep my bag light as I carry it almost everywhere.




What kind of accessories do all of you use? I do the standard, or what I think should be standard; A UV filter with a lens hood on both (all) my lenses.

What kind of shooter are you? I have the 7D set in full manual mode all the time, I have never taken a shot with it in a different setting. I like twiddling with every last number to get the shot and appreciate the camera more because it lets me adjust almost everything....

One thing the 7D does not do by itself is automatic picture taking. I really want the ability to set it so that every X minutes it would snap a photo.... but it seems I have to get a 100$ accessory to do that..... to which I am like, 'I can live without it'

Now I am super jelly of that setup. AB800s! Sick... I'm even more jealous of your 17-40 and 24-70. Gawd I want both those lenses so bad. Haha.

I loved doing that one too. It's @ UW (Go Dawgs!), pretty touristy area when the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom, It's only a few weeks of the year so... Yeah... When I took it, the Cherry blossoms already almost lost their pink-ness.

Its when the cherry blossoms are falling that they are most pretty.....
