Soo.... Any photographers out there?

I've been really tempted by that 17-40L--perhaps I'll try to rent one and see how much better the quality is--since it's the same focal length (wide) as my 17-85. Although I've stuck with Canon lenses so far, I'd be willing to try an off-brand if the quality were high enough. More research to go....

Is there any good website that lists information on lenses? I currently have an 18-200MM off brand lens that fits my Nikon D40 but I dont know what else is important, (like this L thing).

Also recent issue there have been alot of little black spots in the middle of my recent pictures that include anything white in the afflicted area. My camera hasnt suffered any hard falls and it has already been sent back to the manufacturer for a faulty sensor. I was wondering if its possible something has happened to my sensor again or if it could be something else? I have a lens cover on my lens so nothing gets on the actual glass surface and I havnt swapped it out with the stock 28-55 lens since I got the camera body back. I also cant see anything on the surface of the cover...

There are probably many, but one that I used years ago when I was shopping for my lenses was this one:

L series is Canon lens only. L series is an indication of higher quality. Usually that doesn't mean they are better than the normal lenses. But usually the L series are good for full format cameras. IE 5D Mark II (Mark I/Original). As for Nikon, I don't know much about them since I use a Canon so I haven't done research on them.

Black spots should be dust in the sensor. You should bring it to a local camera store and have them shoot some air into it. It's shaped kind of like a baster.

They shouldn't be charging you any money for this, but it depends on the store. I had dust issues but the camera place I go to is really nice. Cleaned it and taught me to clean it for free. Then again I did buy about $1000 worth of stuff from them, the guy didn't know at the time though.
