Overly sensitive might be the right phrase. I've known too many LGBT people who were openly bullied even raped because they are not straight. My views on racial jokes also changed after I saw racism first hand, too.

I cant believe people get offended so much.

Military guys are macho men and gays are seen as femenine and not rough and tough so yes, it is a stereo type that makes for a funny joke. I have friends(and family) that are GLB and I can joke with them. People can make fun of me and I can take it. No sense having your feelings get hurt.

Civil your joke may have been tasteless, but based on posts, it was a fair joke.

My 2 cents:

Rarely, if ever, do you tell someone you don't know well what you really think. For example, you don't walk up to a stranger, or even someone that you may have met once, and say what up fat ass? However, I have close friends that I make fun of all the time. If this guy indeed hated homosexuals my best guess is he would keep his mouth shut about it all together. Odds are he probably doesn't give a rat's ass one way or the other, so he cracked a joke.
