your debit card number gets stolen....
Just got a call from American Airlines asking for verification for the purchase of airline tickets for some fucktard that stole my debit/credit card info. I suspect my son has a keylogger on his computer and i was compromised when i bought him some gold for World of tanks a couple of weeks ago.
I noticed that there was a strange charge on my account yesterday for $1.00.... i had a strange feeling that i was getting "pinged" and was going to call the bank Monday morning. Well I should have called yesterday when i saw the outstanding charge. The bad news is i have no cash on hand and i will have no debit card for a week or so (but i can get around that), the good news is, the woman at American airlines put two and two together and had a hunch that this was not a legit purchase and looked up my info, then called me. They did NOT put the $580 charge through.
This is a first for me. Anyone else get fucked over by some cyber scumbag snatching your number?

No, it's something I fear.
Hope you will be fine. My advice, go to the bank tomorrow morning, and get some cash.

It happened to me and my father within a week of each other. And no charges between us had been similar in any way except for lunch every couple weeks together, and the charges on our accounts were made in the same area (somewhere in Pennsylvania).

We'll see if i even have any money left after this. I live week to week, so i watch every charge every day. But i have noticed that some places that i use the card, the charges dont show up for a couple of days. Who knows what else this clown tried to charge on my account, i might be 1000 bucks in the hole come morning.

Get a second account and save some rainy day money in it. Then you have a slight buffer. Also the reason I use a credit card and not my debit. I rarely pull out the debit card, then if they ding me it maxes the CC and never touches my actual money.

Re: your debit card number gets stolen....
I used to do that, then money got really tight. I kept using the "isolated" money every week. So when i switched banks a couple of years ago, i never set up the second account for online purchases. I got lazy because i didn't get hit, my bad, lesson learned.

Re: your debit card number gets stolen....
My dad had it happen like 5 times in one year when we were using BoA. And then once from a used car dealership. He's always got everything back, though.
Funny thing about the dealership.. The fool ordered everything straight back to his house. He works at the dealership. What an idiot.Speed. I am speed.

Re: your debit card number gets stolen....
I had some clown at a restruant in tampa a couple years ago try this shit. I was there for a couple months renovating a target and he took down the info when i paid. A week later i get home and i have a charge for 2500 for 2 tickets to mexico. Just so happens the place he booked it from on the internet was 5 miles from my house.
However they had a 3rd floor suite and a key pass for the elevator so i couldnt get up to their office. However the cops they called had no issue getting me in there. I told them i wanted to press charges. After a bit of persuading but the tickets were left valid and the clown boarded the plane. Shortly there after he and his fucking buddy were dragged back off in cuffs. B of A refunded my money.
I use to shop on the internet occasionaly. I had a few minor ones then for like 20 here and 50 there. I wrote it off and ordered a new card but they are the reasons i do not use pay pal and very very rarely use any other internet payment system. I tried to not use them but some things i want i simply can not find where i am and when my tools break i need parts asap.Last edited by deathgodusmc; 08-31-11 at 08:31 PM.

Re: your debit card number gets stolen....
Bank of America has a nifty little tool called ShopSafe. If you have one of their credit cards you can go into your online banking and make a temporary credit card with a limit and set how long the number will be valid for. It's pretty damn sweet.
