He's quite the character, he kept trying to get me to have drink with him and eat some pinto bean's he was cooking. I told him if he had been my last call I'd take em up on it. 70 yrs old and act's like he's 30, gave me a tour of his trophy room saw his gold record but he's most proud of his grandson next would be his numerous buck shoulder mounts, very avid hunter and of course he gave me a copy of his latest cd.

Roy Head Live video I shot @ The Cadillac Lounge in Toronto. What an incredible story, in 1965 his song was the Billboard #1 R&B song of the year, and hit #2 on Billboard's Pop Charts, topped only by the most recorded song in history, The Beatles, 'Yesterday'. His band, The Traits, refused to quit their day jobs to go on tour, booking only weekend local Houston, TX gigs at the height of national success.. what kind of wacky ripple in the space-time continuum is that.. I wanna hot tub time machine back there and offer to be his guitarist.. Fellow Toronto guitarist Danny Marks plays guitar in this video.. Danny's an underrated master of vintage pop, surf, and blues, a vault of tunage so complete, I would'nt bet a nickel on a song he can't play.. when I was 16 I'd go to his gigs 'cause he could play 'Hideaway'. Drummer Leon Stevenson I've known since 1975, even though I wasn't born yet. Roy Head is a truly legenday stage warrior.. (barely missed my camera throwing the microphone, see the video at 19 seconds in..). I love the man as a brother musician, he personifies the absolute thrill of rock and roll in performance.. checkout the moves on that 69 year old stud.. One writer quoted him saying in an interview, " If there's one SOB in the house that paid to see me, I'll get up and give him the best show I can.." Amen Roy Head.. now, Hit Me!
