you make a stupid, stupid mistake

So tonight me and my buddy went to see Apollo 18. We got out of my car (keep in mind I have my car set to keep the dome lights off when the doors are open, so there were no electronics on at all on/in my car during the movie), watched the movie came out an hour and a half or so later. I tried starting my car, but the engine wouldn't turn over, so I tried a few more times with no luck, I decided to pop the hood and see if I could find anything obviously preventing my car from starting. I found nothing, so I push the hood down.

I get back in my car and this time I hold the key and after a couple seconds it tries to turn over. So I let the key go then did it again and it finally started. Good stuff....however on our way back to my house, we got railroaded. We decided to backtrack and take a different route home, the road I was on has a speed limit of 40 I think. I got up to about 43 when out of fucking nowhere my hood just flies up. It scared the holy hell out of me and my friend...so I put the hazards on (road was basically empty) and hopped out and closed the hood....now I have giant fucking dents in the corner of my hood, as well as severely cracked plastic from this plastic piece that is on top of my windshield, but sitting right by the hood. Apparently though I thought I pushed the hood down far enough, it didn't latch in place.

I think it's safe to say that even though I'm 19, I'm seriously scared to tell my dad about this.

I'll see if I can get pics tomorrow if I remember.....

P.S. I said to my friend: "This is what happens to blonde women drivers, so embarrasing."

your quite lucky the hole hood didnt come off, or make a modest crack in your windshield. Suprised there were no hazard lights for hood not secure?

Damn, I saw a rally racing vid once where the cars hood popped off at around 100 mph or so and slammed into/covered the windshield, the whole thing was covered in cracks and like true rally car drivers they went on. Luckily you were able to pull over, that would have scared the shit out of me.

Also i have nothing but respect for people who rally, it takes nerves of steel and the reflexes of a 12 year old ADHD kid tweaked out on redbull.

At 19, you are going to make mistakes. Mine was thinking my Fiero was an actual sports car and could corner like it could accelerate. No wieght in the front in, I slid right into a curb at 40+ on a side street. The frame was never straight again, and 3 different times I had a tire just fall off after that. (Snapped Control arm and A-Frame from the warping) Same car I learned why you change you oil regularly...

Learn from it and it is all good.
