Yeah, I had a M.N. M44 i set up for a brush gun for my old lease. It was common to walk up on some if you weren't careful, I figured the 14 in poker on the end would be quicker than going for my sidearm if one got it in its head to have a go at me. Sitting on a porch though, your .270 will do a fine job if it's sighted in well. My dad used to punch quarters at 250 yds with his Winchester? in the same caliber.

The best way is to bait a trap and get a game cam. Once you get 20 of them or so in there you spring it and shoot them over some beers in the morning. 3-4 guys with night vision sounds expensive and dangerous, as well as ineffective versus a sounder with experienced boars about.

Yeah, you definitely have to have the wind in your favor but we are close to the coast so it is pretty predictable. But at night they feel safe so even if they smell you from a distance they rarely break and run.
Rude, you are completely right, night vision is expensive (for good night vision, be prepared to spend at least $3000) and it requires a lot of discipline for the shooters. Thankfully, pigs are a big enough problem where I am that finding hunters who know what they are doing isn't hard. Safety is the top priority in situations with lots of shooters. We set up a line and every man knows their shooting boundarys. Most of the pigs we have here have a lot of the European bloodline in them. The sows run the big groups and the boars tend to run solo. That is thanks to the neighboring ranch importing pigs for years before the state stopped them
Pigs unfortunately are some of the smartest animals out there, and in my experience they learn how to avoid traps. Hit them where they least expect it.
