MS doesn't care so much because the method is already described on 15 million websites. They also are already getting their money from these people.

It's not my fault Microsoft provided DigitalRiver with legit full install keys and then changed it. My purchase receipt is for a full installation key, and microsoft broke the contract by changing it to upgrade only.

And if we want to go two wrongs don't make a right about it, I shouldn't have the option to "upgrade" after a clean install, or my key shouldn't work, and it would be illegal by their standards as well. Because I didn't upgrade, I just installed again.

Grey area, or not...it's still shitty. I will never pirate anything, especially an OS.

However, when people do the right thing, and companies like Microsoft, screw people over just because they can...that's bullshit.

The disk I was provided is also not an Upgrade disk. It has Windows Anytime Upgrade on it, but it is a full installation disk. The key that was provided with that disk, is a full installation key. But again, that was converted into an "upgrade only" key by microsoft.

And if the "Upgrade" method was sanctioned by microsoft, wouldn't their support tell people to do that instead of forcing them to re-buy or giving the run-around?

MS's #1 goal is to make a profit. If it can double their profit off of people, why wouldn't they do that? Is it ethical? No. However, MS is technically not doing anything wrong, just unethical.
