MS doesn't care so much because the method is already described on 15 million websites. They also are already getting their money from these people.

And if we want to go two wrongs don't make a right about it, I shouldn't have the option to "upgrade" after a clean install, or my key shouldn't work, and it would be illegal by their standards as well. Because I didn't upgrade, I just installed again.

The disk I was provided is also not an Upgrade disk. It has Windows Anytime Upgrade on it, but it is a full installation disk. The key that was provided with that disk, is a full installation key. But again, that was converted into an "upgrade only" key by microsoft.
