And couldn't this be enticement, anyways? They changed it, I go looking for help, don't get it, find a solution on their site that works (and has been posted for an eternity by internet standards), and they sue me for it?

There is nothing of Microsofts intellectual property that I obtained illegally with this method. I still have exactly what I paid them for.

Entrapment is the word you're searching for (Do NOT watch the movie). You might be able to win a civil case, but likely not a criminal one. Of course, it would take years, and millions of dollars you don't have. Communities like this one would applaud your noble efforts but most people won't give a fuck because a)they use Macs or b)they're distracted by Windows 20.

No, Microsofts' business practices need to come under more scrutiny, so that they can't continue with this shady crap.

This happened to me when I purhased Win 7 student discount thing. I just called Microsoft, chewed some butts, and then they fixed it for me. They ended up adding my CD Key into their database or some shit and then it worked.

I bought my mic$oft keys directly off msdn, never had any problems and they give the student discount right then and there...

All in all not much i can complain about.... though only until recently did the bastards finally give me mvs ultimate... really been needing those profiling tools and they wanted some $1000 for an upgrade from professional... like really? Shit bugs me almost as much as adobes sky high prices... Software is awsome.... but some prices are unreasonable...
