Unix Systems Administrator

If you want to be appreciated for your logical thinking, your attention to detail, and your command of Unix systems administration, we want to talk to you.



Here is some of what you will do your first year:

  • Build out and deploy new FreeBSD servers running Apache and postfix
  • Keep live production systems humming with 99.99% uptime
  • Make sure system monitoring is fine-tuned using Nagios
  • Diagnose and fix networking problems using your TCP/IP knowledge
  • Configure firewalls, VPN connectivity, DNS servers, SMTP servers
  • Analyze mail and system logs and create/update documentation
  • Coordinate with vendors on new equipment purchases
  • Ensure proper data backup and archival procedures are followed
  • Maintain our VoIP telephone system and Windows and Mac workstations

Requirements

  • Familiarity with managing FreeBSD 8 on servers, Windows and MacOS desktops
  • Car to occasionally drive to data center to pick up and deliver equipment (and ability to lift rack mount servers)
  • Knowledge of networking technologies (switches, wiring, firewalls)
  • Ability to write shell and/or perl scripts; other languages beneficial




Unix Web Developer

Looking for a full-time web software developer to join our talented team on-site in Rockville, Maryland. Our software is the award-winning "powered by" technology behind the email newsletters of the some of the biggest brands you know. If you want to be appreciated for your logical thinking and attention to detail, we want to talk to you.

Here is what you will do in your first year:

  • Enhance our existing product line with social networking tools, inline image editing and much more
  • Create a rich API to integrate numerous other applications
  • Design applications using cutting edge technology, including AJAX
  • Diagnose and fix issues to ensure the software you build is humming
  • Fine tune our user interface based on direct, sometimes eye-opening, feedback from customers
  • Perform analysis on hundreds of millions of rows of data to create metrics reports that we release to the media (this gets a LOT of media coverage)

Along the way, you will have:

  • Refined your hands-on experience with open source tools for Unix - and contributed to open source
  • Dealt with extremely large databases with a gazillion rows

Requirements (NOTE: We are a Unix shop, not Windows).

  • Object oriented programming required
  • Experience with application frameworks
  • Perl, mod-Perl, Template Toolkit experience preferred but not required
  • SQL - formulate queries, maintenance and optimization. Postgres DBA skills desirable
  • Web - HTML, Javascript, and simple interface design
  • 5 years experience developing web applications, college degree preferred
