Last Nights Losing Disaster 7/15/16
What the fuck happened seriously? I actually Q up this morning by myself into comp mode and didn't lose a single match I went from rank 46 back to 50 again. It seems when I Q up for 6 man in comp mode we get curb stomped... Maybe we should have a shot caller like in Counter Strike that way we are all trying to do the same thing? Something gotta change because my fucking pride can't take this kind of beating when I know we're better than that. Ideas?

I play comp to win so yeah I take it seriously and I expect my teammates should take it seriously as well. If you want a casual game of Overwatch by all means playing quick play that's why it's there. As for if that makes us play conservative I don't think so. It may be the opposite and everyone trying to make big plays and getting killed weakening the presence on the field. This isn't the first time this has happened. Every time we play together we lose more matches than we win by long shot. Yesterday was just the worst.

I wasn't questioning your, or anyone's will to win. Sometimes, when you stop having fun and playing loose, you actually play worse. Rather than playing to your collective strenghths, the team starts playing to correct their collective weaknesses. It's why the better team sometimes loses. Sometimes having a collective muffin and playing the way you would in a casual game can make the difference between winning and getting stomped.
Either way.....Sometimes you are going to get to eat the dog, and sometimes the dog is going to eat you. Just be the bigger dog and lick your balls and move on.

Re: Last Nights Losing Disaster 7/15/16
I wasn't there but I know from what I've played that without someone trying to make calls, it can get a bit chaotic. At the start of all my comp matches, I do a mic check and just try to get people going in with a level head from the start. Without someone -loosely- calling at least, people will just instinctively go in and try for kills ASAP, not regarding any form of team-play or co-ordination. It reverts back to a primal team death-match style play when you lose that thought of a team objective.
Basically, just group up. You see more than two people die without their team also dying? Probably a good time to back out and wait for yours to respawn (circumstantial of course). See someone ahead of the pack? Tell them to wait up and go in at a certain time/location. Press tab to sync up ults, and try to communicate using the in-game commands to provide visual feedback as well as using that mic.
I enjoy calling odd strategies myself. For instance, on a CP map, I like to hold off on some maps without being seen before the point is active. Once the other team starts to cap it, we all burst out and hit them with everything from one side. It doesn't always work, and most of the time people don't like to do it. The times it does though, we all feel great about it and use that momentum to ride out the win. Small calls to keep people focusing on the objective just seem to be the best ideas, followed closely by trying to counter their composition in small doses.
Composition can make a huge difference. Now, I play Zarya 95% of the time... which makes me seem silly talking about a comp, but I just feel so comfortable on her and make things work most of those times. I will switch if absolutely needed of course, but I try and have someone else take that switch for me. Most of the time it is because they are playing a character that would be less useful than the one I suggest to them, and they realize it and swap out. I'm not saying I know it all or I know how to play the game the right way, because I don't; but making small adjustments to how the game or match is seen is what it takes to play like a team. We just need everyone to take note of it and be open to suggestions at all times instead of thinking they can go in and kill a few on their own, or make some epic play if they just sneak over there before the team can back them up.
Be aware of the situation, your surroundings, and yourself. Actively think about what you and your team are doing. The objective is to win, not get a nice K/D or kewl trick plays. Think before you sink.
