Mechanical keyboards are easier to be accurate with (fewer typos and mis-hit keys), but that doesn't matter in most games. However you use a quality mechanical keyboard for a while, all rubber dome keyboards feel like terrible, mushy shit.

For me the accuracy does matter in games. I particularly like the initial resistance in the keystroke. Mis-hits during game play aren't something you can correct with Backspace.

As for the $50 - I think that's legit. It's not the choice I'd make, but I can see it making sense for others.
