Why does RAM have to be so complicated?

I have an AMD system and need a serious memory upgrade. What should I be looking for in memory?
I plan on upgrading my Mobo as well in the future... But Ram is needed more right now

list of ram that you can use for you motherboard

    http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList...790xt-ud4p.pdf

you can go up to 16 gb

    nice info sMOKe

What about 2+ channels? would my mobo not recognize them or is that irrelevant without hyper-threading?
without getting too complicated what are good timings/clocks for memory... or should I pick out a new Mobo first

You really don't need to worry about timing too much. In most cases faster timing will only result in a percentage point or two of performance gain. If you are planning on overclocking, you will likely want to get RAM rated at a faster speed than you're running now.

As far a dual channel... most likely your RAM slots will be color-coded. Two slots one color and two the other. It just allows the CPU to increase the bandwidth by splitting up memory access between the 2 channels. Doesn't require hyperthreading.
