    Gaming laptop ideas

How many here game on their laptops? What are the specs you use?

I am possibly looking at buying a laptop for gaming. I am currently living in hotels half the month and really miss gaming. My current laptop can't play any games newer than 6 years. lol

I am not looking for the top $5000 laptop. I am looking at something under $1500. Like the Sager NP8150 or the ASUS G74. Does anyone have these or recommend something else?

I debated building a compact desktop, but I don't really want to be moving a computer plus monitor around every week.

I loved my Asus, but have not bought a new lappy in a few years, so I can't speak to the newer generations.

Just noting the lugging around of parts discussion... I got a 21.5" acer LED backlit LCD... it is 1920x1080, cost 110 bucks and weighs next to nothing. Even if you get a lappy, it might be worth it to buy an inexpensive LED monitor for gaming on...

I'm using the ASUS G53 (I can't remember the exact model, but its from newegg with 6gb memory over the 8gb if I recall correctly), which has been good so far. There have been some problems others had, but I believe that was only this model specific and not all of ASUS. Not much of a picture buff so I can't tell you how the screens are. But yeah, had no problems as of yet, other then the thing is a heavy bastard (and the power brick is about the size of a brick).

When I was shopping, I had heard great thing about Sagers though, just was out of my price range. I found the notebookreview forums helped somewhat, so might be worth checking out *shrugs*: Laptop Forums and Notebook Computer Discussion

    I have the Sager NP8150.
    I like it.

However, I bought the top of the line and then still customized further for myself. It is really easy to change around some of its insides, and it doesn't affect the warranty.

That is the battle I'm facing. I won't be moving stuff daily so I am still seriously considering it. This will probably turn into my main computer as my wife won't like me having two expensive computers.

I did check out the G74 at Best Buy and it's a monster. How's the cooling on the G53 after gaming a while?

How's the cooling on the 8150? I did like the ease of customizing. From reading some of the other laptops have to come half way apart just to change the hard drive.

Does any one play BF3 on their laptops? I have never been a person to play games on the highest settings. At the same time I don't want to be skipping around lagging everywhere.

The 8150 cooling works great, the only problem is that I have to blow out dust every few months.

I can play BF3 on high settings with no lag.

I just bought the Toshiba Qosmio X770, I love it. It plays BF3, BFBC2, CSS all on high or Ultra high settings.
I don't like little keyboards and this does not have a small kb, the keys all have a good spacing between them to make it easy to use.

    Specs Here

I paid just under 1500.00 for mine.

Hehe I'm stupid like that. It was a cut and paste from the print view. I just deleted the stuff to make it less cluttered.
