I had 35$ discount with the mobo/cpu combo, but since it didn't work I had to pay full price :/ oh well. I also got a 10$ gift card with the CPU. I'll probably put that towards more fans.

Soooooo...my PC restarts during Win7 start up what could be the issue? I moved my HDD back to my old rig and it works fine. I assume its a mobo issue?

So, the OS you are using on that HDD was installed on your old mobo? ZEach mobo has unique hardware and requires different drivers. There are techniques for migrating an OS to a new build, but I would always do a clean install when moving to a new mobo.

So the best way is a clean install? I can't just install the drivers to my current HDD? It came with a disk, however, my cd drive is an older model with no ports on this mobo. Obviously I'd prefer to not have to re-install windows haha

It has been quite a few years and two OSes since I last tried to move an existing OS to a new platform. It was challenging and never was stable. I don't have enough experience with migrating an existing OS install to a new system to give any advice. Except to say that I always do a clean install on any new mobo. Sometimes the chipsets are similar enough that you can load and install new drivers. But since you are already crashing out it is a bad sign.

Some IT expert here probably has experience with migration tools but I would say reinstall in my case.

I've some experience with doing it but I agree with Soy. Unless you're previous OS was rock solid, no installs then uninstalls of software... Windows OS's get gunked up over time. Rebuilding is usually cleaner. If you're happy with it though, the basics are as follows:

On the working computer, load the drivers for the new mobo especially the SATA controllers. You may need to load them to devices not currently present. Hopefully that's all you'd really need to do then swap in the drive. I'm trying to recall if you need to delete the SATA controllers from original MOBO before you swap. I don't think so.

If you google it, you should find more hits on how to do it.

I'm just gunna go ahead and re-install. I ordered a new CD drive, and I'm in the process of moving shit to a 2nd HDD as back up. Honestly, after looking at all the extra shit I have on my comp, it's time for a fresh install.
