    Old Office Desktops

My office is getting rid of some old Desktops. They were going to Recycle them But I asked why don't you sell them. Now They are mine to sell.

    2x Dell Dimmension E520
    2x HP compaq dc5750
    3x BCI Group towers
    K&B to accompany each.

Any Ideas? I'd like keep it off Craigslist and Ebay, and try to do it in one transaction.

I work with Oregon State University Surplus and all of those would be in our recycle bin cause from what I can tell by the model numbers they're less than a 50 dollar computer.

Donate them... Such old machines wouldn't even be worth the trouble of trying to sell.

Or you can sell them for $50 each to older people who want something to get email from their grandkids on. I make a killing on that business

This is where I get a good chunk of my consulting business. Older couples buy really old PCs to surf the web and do basic email. They call me because its so slow or they need an OS upgrade. Its good money on the side. I guess you could say its a service approach to the razor principle (sell the handle at cost and make your money on the razors) that console manufacturers use, heck its amazon's approach to the kindle fire. They sell it near or below cost to make money on content. In theory, an IT consultant could buy these out of date systems, put a little TLC into them and then sell them off to make money on service. Could even offer them as loaners while a person's main system is in house for repairs. I always make sure to use really slow systems as loaners so that when they get their main system back after I work on it it seems SO incredibly fast in comparison

Time vs benefit. If you have that much free time, then maybe. I donated machines that old to charities so I didn't have to deal with them or their support.

If you're going to have to support them, I'd skip it unless you have consulting on the side like Phyr.
