I am a project manager. I coordinate drawings, BPs, leases, regulatory review, etc, and get each site ready for construction. At this point we have plenty of drafters, but it is always fun to learn something new.

    Re: AutoCAD

AutoCAD is not a difficult learning curve. Definitely easier the REVIT, more difficult than the free google sketchup though. Once you learn commands, it is one of the quickest and easiest drawing programs though.

Watching a few youtube tutorials would give you enough to learn on your own. No need to take classes IMO

In that case, you probably would like to learn everything involved in AutoCAD from start to finish.

Truth, I've done this plenty of times when playing around with Inventor, Solidworks, ProE, etc. Youtube is a great place to learn.

I just wondered if AutoCAD is something you can learn on your own, or if you really have to take classes?

We use ALOT of ProE at my work. Some of the younger engineers have also used a suite called "Rhino" that is steeply discounted for students....have you played around with Google Sketchup?
