Thread: Controling CPU fan speed

Pretty much looking to do wha the thread name says. Would like to avoid 3rd party software. Either settings in the bios or via control panel.

Your BIOS may have a setting. Your mobo manufacturer may make a tool to do it from the OS and dynamically.

Speedfan is third party, but some people seem to like it.

I just use my Asus mobo's "Fanxpert" under the AI suite.

Do i have to enable a settings for the mother board to varry the speed of the fan depeding on the temp?

I don't know if the feature is auto enabled, but I'm using a 4 pin fan. This is the model,

Is your fan that loud that it needs to be turned down?

Ah, found it in the BIOS. Everything seems to be running el perfecto. Mucho mucho thank'o.

There is a noticeable sound for me. Then again I am coming of a liquid cooled unit, which is a stealth system compaired to any air.

But yes, the CPU fan was running at 100% 3400RPMs none stop. While it wasn't crazy loud, I certainly liked it more at 50%, which I got to with SpeedFAN, as it was silent. Now, that I was pointed to build in features, Q-Fan is running great, and work every well keepig my system around 42c, idle, and nice and quiet.

Yeah, my Zalman is noticeable at 100%, but I run it at 20% most of the time. I made a fan speed setting that keeps it at 20% until it hits 55C then it ramps up to 60% until 60C then ramps up to 100% at 70C. Hardly ever breaks 60% though...

Your case fans can also be adjusted using the mobo. My CPU stays so cool that I had to turn the fans up at relatively low CPU load to vent the ambient temp from my system (the CPU is 45C but the mobo might be hitting 50 at the same time, lol).
