Windows Normal Mode blank blue/black screen! help!
When I boot in normal mode, I get a blank blue screen, and if I turn off the monitor and back on, the screen will remain black. Its not a BSOD, just a blank screen.
Problem started when I downloaded a few games from steam and during one of the in-game settings I accidently changed the screen resolution to a setting not compatible with my monitor, so the screen went blue. crtl+alt+deleted out of it and tried to run the game in 800x600 in order to change it back. Right clicked the game, went to properties, but noticed the compatibility tab was missing. along with the "run as administrator option"
googled "missing compatibility tab" and found a few solutions that I tried, including messing with the registry. When I rebooted my computer, the problem started.
I restarted it again in safe mode with networking ( which is what I am on right now) and first ran a full system scan (norton anti-virus) and found nothing. Then i tried a few registry clean up software programs (CCleaner) and fixed the issues it found but it didnt solve the problem.
Next I went into control panel > programs and tried to see if any weird programs were installed / uninstall everything i recently installed. I uninstalled the 3 games after manually adding in the MSIServer into the registry to allow the microsoft installer to be run in safe mode. I also found/deleted some weird "processor optimizer" by the company AMD. which is odd because I have a cpu by Intel, the i7 chip. Also deleted two windows LIVE programs that had both been downloaded that same day. After rebooting still the same screen.
Anyone who has any clue, please help!
Im thinking either some weird malware/spyware or a video-card issue but I have no clue.
THANKS! help much appreciated!

1. Make sure cable running from vid card to monitor is attached properly.
2. Uninstall vid card driver and reinstall latest version.
3. D/l malwarebytes, install then update to latest definitions and run a full scan.

Frikn, odds are the video settings are being screwed up by the steam settings, to reset them follow these steps

As a side note, if you have the open to restore your PC to a previous save point (prior to installing the steam games) that option would be your best bet as it will undo any changes you made to your registry and such and restore things to its previously working condition.Last edited by Phyrelight; 07-25-12 at 07:57 AM.
