Re: Keyboards..
I agree with pretty much everything Aethe posted. The first keyboard I liked was one I picked up from a thrift store for less than a dollar. I even got a discount because I thought one of the keys was stuck (turns out that popping out the key and putting it back on fixed it). Used it for three to four years before the adapter I was using bombed out (mini-DIN to PS2) and I didn't feel like looking for another.
The cherry switches are good and I like the browns (tactile, not clicky) the most for general typing. I have a Filco board that uses them. It is not ideal for gaming, though. The Topre switch on my Happy Hacking Keyboard Professional 2 (or whatever it is called) is a bit better. I think it would be perfect if it required a bit less pressure to depress and the travel length was shorter. I have tried an Alps type switch before (matias pro 2) but it just had way too much resistance for my tastes.
I actually think all keyboards should have the same travel as laptop keyboards. So nice to just tap across and have everything go through. Lenovo has the best laptop keyboards I have found, with Mac a close second. My dream keyboard would be something with the shortcuts of the Happy Hacker, Topre style switches with laptop length travel, bluetooth, a couple macro keys, n-key rollover, and an ergonomic design like the Logitech wave or Microsoft Natural (or whatever the split design was called).
I would honestly pay $300 for that. Hell, I would buy one for work and one for home. And heavily consider getting a more portable version of it for my laptop.

Re: Keyboards..
Update: so razer just announced the release of a new keyboard...The price point is pretty high IMO especially for it not being mechanical, However the pros outweigh the cons, Compared to the Logitech G19, you get a bigger screen which is Touch screen AND you are not required to plug it into a wall outlet like logitechs dumb ass design, anyways i will be picking this bad boy up as soon as its released, I hope they keep up with the drivers.
