yup - I am just waiting to see the estimated cost on this bad boy. Haven't found any yet - though if other 27/30 in models are any indication - this'll likely be in the $700-$1000 range I think

Almost seems too wide, but I bet racing games would be TOTALLY awesome on that thing.

Needs a modest curve to it instead of straight across.

    It does look impressive.

This is what I see when I look at that shot:

    I want this!-widesuxrox-jpg

The useful data on that monitor is in green. Everything else is tinted red. There is as much space taken up by four identical menu/tool bars as there is by actual things you might be interested in. The most data-dense of the green areas shows 6 rows of a spreadsheet. SIX ROWS?!? Less than half the area on the monitor is useful. This shot illustrates a usability nightmare.

Seriously, I wasn't kidding when I asked why people are so willing to give up vertical space. 1080 vertical sucks.

More than half the people I know who work in the computing field have two monitors on their desk. Commonly they are 1920 x 1200 ... and they set them up in portrait mode. That's 1920 vertical.

For those who have ever printed out something with text on it (like for a paper you had to hand in, or a report you printed for your boss), how many of you found 8.5" by 17" (the "wide screen" paper) stock and then printed in landscape? Text, even text in a spreadsheet, is almost impossible to read like that. Every time I see a text document (code in an editor, text in a word processor or layout program, a web page) on a 1080 monitor, I want to see more vertical. It's nice to be able to see two-up pages, and this monitor lets me see 3-up! Awesome! Three documents, side-by-side, each of which is cut off at the bottom.

The same goes for image editing (or viewing). How many photoshop users would be happy with 1080 vert.?

For some games, yeah, it might be nice. Maybe for driving games, which are 3D but you don't care what's up or down. In most cases I'd still rather have 1200 vertical, but for some things the extra width is useful. For movies, I guess this is nice enough. But aren't most wide-screen video products 1920x1080? If we stretch 1920 out to 2560, what happens to the vertical? Won't the display of most video content on this monitor result in two black bands on the left and right side?

I'm not trying to hate on this monitor, or the people who want it. I'll grant that there may be applications where it's a good choice. I'm trying to understand the appeal.

    Li'l help?

    Cheers,

    AetheLove

    Re: I want this!

I have a 2048 x1152 monitor at work (good luck finding that since they stop making them ) Nice to get 1024 x 2. Plus I have a standard HD monitor turned sideways for long documents. Seems to work fairly well for me.
