Excellent review of the 830 series:

The new 840 Pro series is also very fast:

The 840 series though is cost prohibitive as they are brand new.

Re: SSD vs SATA Hard Drive OS install
Because random read is what we should be concerned about for its purposes....
I have a 180GB SSD and a 2TB HD plus a 2TB external.
SSD for OS+all Apps+Origin
2TB Internal for Steam+All other games + videos
2TB External for videos and music and long-term storage. Couple SVN repositoriesLast edited by gehn; 10-10-12 at 11:10 AM.

Re: SSD vs SATA Hard Drive OS install
I decided to go with this one. I got it and the adapter from amazon for 235.00. With delivery tomorrow.
OCZ VTX4-25SAT3-256G Vertex 4 256GB Solid State Drive - 256GB, SATA III 6Gbp/s, Up to 120,000 Maximum IOPS, 2.5 at TigerDirect.com
I also was having some issues with my motherboard so i decided to buy this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131736
I bought it at fry's.
The ssd has a 5 year warranty and was the fastest random read and write.
Some of you know I have 3 systems I play on, home system, laptop and a work system. The home system has been giving me issues for the past 4 months and I was leaning towards a motherboard/hard drive issue. My work system already has the sabertooth motherboard and same cpu, amd black edition 965, so now I will be playing on very similar systems between home and work. I will just need to upgrade the work to an ssd in the near future.
I hope to get my home system rebuilt Friday while at work.
As far as storage at home I already have a server with 3tb of space for my movies, pictures and music so this system is just gaming and every day use like email, surfing the net and the occasional word/excel document.
Thanks for the help.

Re: SSD vs SATA Hard Drive OS install
Yeah I ordered one with it, I was at Fry's looking at what they had but the max Gb they had was 1-240GB. They also had the adapters but they were 12 bucks, the one I ordered with my SSD was only 4 bucks plus 3 bucks shipping.
They should be here tomorrow.
I am excited and cant wait to get my system rebuilt.
If all goes well with this SSD I may go ahead and buy another for my work system because I know once I start gaming on the home system, the work system is going to drive me crazy with slow load times.

I have my OS, some other apps, and BF3 on the SSD. Everything else is on my other drives, including Steam.
