Help, dual hard drives and OS issue
Okay so my father just installed his Vertex 4 SSD. I'm going to get a list of what he as for hardware.
But here's the issue, he was booting off a seagate disc drive using a single copy of Win7. Now, that he has the SSD in there, the SSD is the primary boot drive with Win 7 installed. The same key used for the disc drive.
When he starts up it boots from the SSD, the disc has been set lower in the order, but the bios is seeing both operating systems. So while it's still running through the start up, right after the mother board logo and chance to enter the bios, it gives the option to select windos 7 or windows 7.
We don't want that.
I think it has to do with a step in transfering the OS, I read about it when we used his disc to get win7 on my PC. Something about disabaling or abandoning the OS on the old drive before you activate the new one.
Also, he said something about running a recovery on the old disc drive's operating system. I don't know all the details but he's saying he has another issue there. I'll update when I know whats up.Dispatch the DooM

Re: Help, dual hard drives and OS issue
He reconstruted windows on the old drive. And hasn't activated win 7 on the SSD. When he boots from the old drive, the theme goes black, says it's not a valid copy of windows, and something seems to be wrong with explore. The brightness is down, not icons, no start menu, not task manager, just a mouse courser.

Re: Help, dual hard drives and OS issue
to remove the second windows 7 boot option:
start->run->msconfig
Boot tab, remove the install that you do not want.
As for the bad boot from the old drive, could be countless number of things... What does "reconstructed windows on the old drive" mean?Last edited by Bunni; 10-26-12 at 07:05 PM.

Re: Help, dual hard drives and OS issue
He says what he did was go into windows explorer and remained the "windows" file on the disc drive. And wants to know why the bios would even see that as an operating as its now called "old windows" When he restarted, Asus GUI BIOS ran a diagnostic on the OS for that disc drive and reconstructed windows. Though I don't know how the bios would know what to do with the OS...
