Have you ever cleaned your graphics card before? Could have dust build up. You also may want to consider redoing the thermal compound.
As for why, it depends on how hard your GPU is being pushed.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Try taking out your GPU and blowing out the fan dust with a can of air or an air compressor. When you put the GPU back in your PC, power it somewhere that you can watch and make sure the fan is blowing.
edit: damn white beat me to it. In my defense I am typing 1 handed
also for GPU's anything under 80C is usually acceptable.Last edited by iLLusioN; 12-09-12 at 08:21 PM.

Re: Help Jude
Ok, so I've got an early exam tomorrow so I don't have time to clean or anything tonight, I'll do that tomorrow.
I did do a quick test though, I loaded into Saint's Row: The Third(Since I've been playing it recently) and I had the CCC open in the other window to see Heat, It stayed steady at 95 or so during gameplay, but when I launched into DoD it hit that just in the menus and once I loaded into the server and picked a class, the fan speed went straight up to 100% and the Temp hit 101 and instacrash when I pressed the class button, I didn't even see the first person view.

I had an issue similar to this with an old 4000 series card as well once, even blowing air to clean the fan didn't help on graphics intensive games (apparently stock fans for the card just sucked *shrugs*) there are some pretty decent aftermarket cooling fan rigs that are inexpensive as well, depending on whether or not you have to stick with that one for awhile you may consider Newegg.com - ARCTIC Accelero S1 Plus VGA Cooler is one example

Re: Help Jude
Bleh, I hope I don't need to buy anything, I can't afford to buy anything.
Also I installed DoDS on my netbook for shits and giggles and I get a whopping 10 to 20 FPS running around alone on Donner, I did hit 30 at one point, but still, looks like my last ditch effort failed and unless I get my Desktop working, I'll be DoDless.

You could also take your GPU fan and heatsink off and reapply some thermal paste on it.
