What does it take to run DayZ on "Ultra"
Can anyone suggest what my limiting component(s) are and recommend the cheapest upgrade solution?
i7-950 (3.06ghz oc'd to 4.0ghz)
Gigabyte X58-UD3R mobo
18gb of 1600mhz DDR3
Radeon 6870 1gb Vid card
120hz Benq Monitor
- I have a second 6870 that is currently loaned to a buddy so he can play the game. I might get it back in March/April/Never.
Current in-game settings:
1920x1080 resolution
I have everything set to very high accept;
video memory - default
anti-aliasing - disabled
shadow effects - disabled
postprocess effects - disabled
vsync - disabled
I"m currently getting 30-40fps. Turning these on results in too few fps and makes the game unplayable.
Thanks for any help/insight.Last edited by Ace22; 01-14-13 at 08:52 AM.

At a glance your video card is the bottleneck. Adding that second one in crossfire will noticeably up your fps, as the load on the second one will be mostly anti-aliasing, resolution, and post-processing effects.
I haven't used AMD video cards since they were still ATI so I can't make any reccommendations from experience, but on the NVidia side of things, anything from dual 560ti GTXs up to a 690GTX would be your easiest/wisest investments at the moment. Your CPU/mobo/ram is fine, and if you upgraded those, you'd still have a weaker video card so upgrading that would be my suggestion.
