    CPU cooler issues

We apologize for the delayed response.

Yes, the CNPS9500A LED will be compatible with AM3+ CPUs, but make sure the Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the CPU is 95W or lower.

    Thank you.

    Regards,
Well that email came in about 3 days after I already bought the fan, I was already sure it wasn't going to be an issue. Now here's the next problem, 95w or lower. My AMD FX-8150 is a 125w TDP CPU.

So what do you folks think?

I've been using the stock cooler that came with the 8150. Right now, my CPU is at about 48 C but it's typically 51 C. The max temp AMD states is 61 C, when I run any game it hits 65 C and on some downloads, 72 C. Kinda the hole reason I'm getting a new cooler unit.

Yet, now I find out this unit is not designed to meet the requirments I have.

If this is such an important spec, why is it such an struggle to locate the proper information on it? Give it a try, search for a fan on your favorite PC parts website and check to see if they list the Thermal Design Power.

Have you cleaned the fan and heatsink on the stock cooler? How long has it been since you've applied thermal paste?
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

It's been a few months since I last cleaned the fan, however this was an issue from the start. I only found out it was overheating when I was kicked back to desktop from BF3 to find asus's heat warning.

The stock cooling you unit came with paste already applied.

Stock paste is normally inferior. Well, to be more accurate, the paste can be ok but they apply a very liberal amount of it. Too much paste is NOT a good thing. It's basically there to fill micro-craters/defects.

I'd see if you can return your cooler, buy an appropriate cooler, buy quality thermal paste, clean the CPU appropriately (we can tell you how or you can google it), apply the new paste in the appropriate fashion...

Bad paste or badly applied paste can raise temps substantially.

Throw on some Arctic MX-4 (you can get pretty cheap on Amazon or Newegg). That or the MX-2 I have been using for a few years and have been the only ideal replacement for the good ole Arctic Silver 5.

If you need a cooler on a budget, consider the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ or the Cooler Master V6 GT. The V6 is a really nice cooler that I have installed on many PCs. It is a great price and does a really good job.

Well I said fuck it and slapped the Zalman on anyways.

    20 degree difference.

55 on idle with the stock, 36 with this new one; 65 vs 46
