    Re: Spaz's New Toy..

While I was at Fry's tonight I grabbed a RAM kit and an H100 cooler. Some guy told me he had just got the H100 and how easily he was able to OC with it. I got a little sad for him when I asked which CPU and he replied AMD. I love AMD, but they have been in a slump for a while now.

Also this is my first post from the new rig. I still have some things to tidy up, and the new PSU won't be here until tomorrow.

So far so good with the open-box motherboard. Updated the BIOS a bit ago and no issues so far. Win 8 install was a breeze but so far I have to say I am pretty lost with the new interface and pretty much hate it. I will probably be re-enabling the old Start menu.

Time to get some stress testing going and hit the sack.

Well, looks like everything is in good shape. I did some light OCing earlier and ran through a few hours of P95. Now I need for my new PSU to get here so I can wrap this thing up.. for now.

What overclock are you able to get on your 3930K? I get 4.5GHz stable, but currently am running 4.4GHz from when I went out of town and left my PC folding all week.

Stable at 4.5 GHz so far. I think I can hit 4.8.. dabbled a bit but been busy shuffling drives around and getting things installed.

I just popped in a GTS 450 I had lying around to try out as a dedicated PhysX card. We'll see how that goes.

My radiator and fans I am using are designed for quiet operation, so I can't go much above 4.5GHz running at full load. Temps running Prime95 are around 62-64C.

Ok fine... dammit... I didn't plan on overclocking at all, but you made me.

I just used the ASUS AI Suite and told it to jack it to 4.25Ghz. Seems stable and idling at 31c so I think that's where I'll keep it.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

Keep an eye on the voltage. I haven't tried auto OC on this board but my old Asus would crank the voltage way over what was necessary.

Spaz is right on this one. The AI suite is good on the fast overclock but they do odd things if you move to extreme. I'd recommend doing it manually if you aren't doing just Fast.

I am also using quiet fans. I work from home nearly every day so noise would quickly drive me insane. I am going to grab some better performing fans before I push any further with mine. For instance, the stock 200mm fan at the front of the 600t doesn't seem to be moving a whole lot of air and certainly not for the noise it generates.

I found 4.4 to be the sweet spot on this chip. I don't notice any difference, performance-wise between 4.4 and 4.5, but I certainly notice a difference in temps.
