I have 4 SSDs already (Eve, one for my linux VMs, OS+games, more games). So, no worries there.

For sequentially accessed files (aka: Music and Movies)

The best thing is to have one hard drive for just music/movies. What you want to do is to make it a fresh format and then when ripping music or movies do that to a different drive and then copy it over to the storage drive. This along with using a defragment program to "consolidate free space" you will be in the best position.

Unless, and here is the aside: If you are working with un-compressed video or audio files (like 7.1 surround wav files that are 30+ minutes long) In that case you should go for the SSD....... but that isn't a storage question thats a performance question.

120 hz gaming monitors will run around 300-400 bucks. They make a big difference in FPS's. Checkout BenQ or Asus. Asus is actually just releasing a new 144hz monitor for under 400 and I'm hearing good things so far.

I have a Samsung 1080p 60hz that looks like garbage compared to the benq XL2420T I bought boxing day. I feel completely justified paying the money for it. Night and day difference and probably 100-150bucks price difference.

    edited - adding links

Asus VG248QE 24" (279.99 on Newegg) - wow, wish this was out b4 xmas I paid $300 for my Benq on boxing day/blackfriday special.

    Asus VG278HE 27" (499.99 on Newegg)

    Benq XL2420T 24" (389.99 on Newegg)

TN LCD panels are garbage. I'll take an IPS-based monitor over any TN based monitor. I don't care how many Hz the refresh rate is.

    And hence the debate

If you prefer picture quality over refresh then IPS in general are superior. If you prefer high frames for high FPS 1st person type games, many will say 120 Hz monitors.

I like my 120 Hz monitor but only for gaming. It's mediorce for anything else.

Purpose and cost. I agree will all comments made.

As I'm mainly gaming on my rig I want the fast refresh rate.

The other key benefit of isp is that there is no sensitivity to viewing angle. What can you get in the isp realm for $280 bucks that will beat that asus 144hz monitor with 1ms response time?

I game on my rig. Crysis 2 looks fantastic on an IPS monitor. I also do fine with a 60Hz monitor. I will only get a 120+Hz monitor if it doesn't have a shitty panel.

Which is to say that I don't play modern games at low settings with no eye candy enabled. If I wanted that, I'd be playing DOD, which while it lacks graphics has good mechanics.

Speaking of FPS games, I elected to go with a WD Caviar Black rather than SSD and still load into a CSGO map fastest every single time.

Online games aren't bad even with a modern HDD or an older SSD. I really notice the difference when using a newer SSD on larger loads like huge game maps, booting up, etc.
