Need SM Bus Controller driver
Someone bought a computer with the wrong operating system. I bought the operating system we needed, from win 7 home premium to professional. I've been spending all day installing drivers and getting updates, etc. I need help with one driver: SM (system management) Bus Controller driver. CPUID identifies the mainboard as Pegatron model # 2AD5. The computer is an HP model # h8-1360t. Where's the best place to get this driver?

Re: Need SM Bus Controller driver
Well, I should add, 3 identical computers were bought actually. When I go into the device manager to look at the properties, the location is PCI bus 0, device 31, function 3. I mention this because I haven't started working on the other two computers yet and I can go through the list of devices to find a device with the same location. The result......Intel(R) 7 series/C216 chipset family SMBus Host Controller - 1E22. On that computer, it says no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device. Ironically, the computer I'm working on says the same thing when I click on the driver tab in the devices properties and click driver details, BUT, I still have the stupid yellow symbol in my device manager window. So, if I don't need a driver, what am I supposed to do? Is it safe to just ignore it or will it give me problems later on?

I bet you can download an install package with all of the Intel device drivers. Regardless of what Windows put on there, you should run the package manually. Here are the drivers for that model listed on HP's site (Windows 7 64 bit was selected):
Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion HPE h8-1360t CTO Desktop PC | HP® Support
In particular, try this driver pack:
Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver | HP® Support
It has the SMBus Host Controller - 1E22 listed. I would run it on all of your boxes if the hardware is identical. It shouldn't matter if it is Home Premium, Basic, or Professional edition. All that matters is that you run install the 64 bit pack if you are running the 64 bit OS.

I browsed the HP updates, same place as that first link, earlier today and couldn't find what you found in the second link.
Gotta hand it to TPG, IT forums and tech forums around the world will look like ghost towns but at TPG, someone always has the answer. Problem solved.HeavyG liked this post

Re: Need SM Bus Controller driver
Another thing to do if you have some weird device that doesn't give a clear name is to
go into device manager
go to the properties of the unknown device
click on the details tab
On the details tab, select Hardware IDs under Property and google that (the longer number is the more accurate one)
My intel 82579v nic shows PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_849C1043&REV_04
However, don't use the driver download sites (I don't trust them all). Just use it to see who makes the device and the device name. Then go to their site and download the right driver.
The third hit shows me the model of my nic.
If you don't get a hit with the full name, start dropping sections off at the _ so my next try would be PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS. This isn't as exact but you may get an idea of where you need to look.
If anyone has a driver download site they trust, let us knowLast edited by RhysJD3; 02-23-13 at 10:00 AM.
