    Network Security

So, I'm not sure if I'll have time to pursue my minor in network security. That leaves with one, I repeat, one class on the subject. I'm not satisfied with that especially since it's what my degree is supposed to be about in a way (big focus on cyber warfare). That leaves teaching myself. Does anyone know of any good books/websites out there on the subject? I'm interested in not only learning the defense side but the offensive side as well.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Come to Vegas sir, DefCon will teach you so much. August 1st-4th

    DEFCON 21 2013 | August 1st | clocate.com - Conferences and Exhibitions

Assuming you are of age the first round after the lectures shuts down is on me.

    Other options....

I will poke around my cabinets at work and see if I still have any of the security books handy.

I have quite a few PDF's for beginners. There are a few websites as well where you can learn quite a bit. I will send you a PM with some of them.

you will want to pick a subset of the area to start with otherwise you will be overwhelmed by information. Its one of those areas you can't know everything about everything. Its constantly changing and evolving and keeping up with a specialized subset by itself is very time consuming.

I think then, that I should dip my toe in each area to get an idea of what I want to focus on and then do that. Thank you all for the advice!

Good idea. In this business it is better to master one and become an expert than to know a little about all. I am still trying to figure out my path.

I'd go for Industrial systems, like those Stux infected, or windows. I figure one is is highly sought by Gov'ts and one is highly sought by consumers.

Kali Linux just came out as well. Might want to take a look at that. It is basically Backtrack 6.
