    Re: The New Rig

Intel Core i5-3570K, MSI Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition, NZXT Phantom (White) - System Build - PCPartPicker

    Throw in: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 997050 - Newegg.com for RAM. Around ~1200 total.

    Better, more reliable SSD.
    Better CPU that allows overclocking.

Sandforced base drives are notorious with issues. Unless you get a Intel 520 series based off SandForce. Intel tweaked that drive for over a year before they released it to actually get it right.

I've been using a Patriot Wildfire using SF-2200, not even SF-2281, for the last year and it's really quite stable. Sandforce has had quite a bit of time to mature since its early days and is actually reliable now. Of course, most Sandforce reliability comes from the firmware rather than the controller itself. I haven't been hands on with any SF-2281 drives, but I don't think they're as bad as people make them out to be.

I'd have to disagree, I run a computer shop here in town and I've had to do more RMA's with SF-2281 drives than any other drives or even any other computer component. I ended up not selling the product at all as it cost us too much time to deal with RMA's.

Crucial M4/Samsung 830/840's/Intel/Plextor are pretty much my go to drives.

Personally running a Intel 520 series in my main machine and a 840 on my test bench.

Actual power consumption at full load on that system is probably less than 300w. Probably more like 250-260w. That is an efficient card, and the CPU should only be about 77w.
