I thought they, Apple, allowed iTunes users to remove the DRM from their music files and rip to mp3. Or am I recalling that incorrectly?

You could pay to 'upgrade' any DRM encumbered music to make it DRM-free, but all their video content has DRM.

Any 'purchased' video you get is going to be encumbered by DRM... blame the MPAA (and others) for that. Only way you can ensure you get DRM free video is to buy the DVD/Blu-Ray and rip it yourself (and bypass THAT DRM).

That's what I was afraid of. It's annoying I can't play items I bought... Oh well. Punish the ones trying to buy the movies...

God forbid they gave me a code for both iTunes and Windows Media player or allowed me to switch them later...
