I have had both AMD and Nvidia cards and, to be honest, I didn't really notice a difference. Software was pretty much the same, games ran pretty much the same. It should be about the best bang for you buck really, a good card is a good card. So all you fanbois gtfo! lol

There's a bunch of articles related to frame rating that PC Perspective wrote up. It's very technical stuff, but suffice it to say, the drivers for crossfire leave a lot to be desired, and they drop frames and render 'runt' or partial frames and it leads to a lot of the 'micro-stuttering' that people complain about. nVidia actually has stuff baked in to their hardware (with further support in the driver) to prevent that from happening. The last month or so, they've talked about it fairly extensively on their podcast and have several articles documenting all the ins and outs of what they did and why they got the results they got. Very cool stuff.

Essentially, the frame rate the FRAPS reports isn't anywhere close because half of the frames are only partial and will not even be displayed. Basically, you aren't getting any benefit out of your Crossfire setup, which may be why people notice more micro-stutter out of the cards. It is actually poor frame rating performance.

    Re: AMD 7990 anyone?

I have ran several ATI/AMD cards and several Nvidia cards. My only multi GPU setup was a Voodoo 2 SLI so I can't comment on that. But for single GPU, both are good and I just buy the best I can afford when it's time to upgrade.
