I have found the Revo Uninstaller works great. It searches for leftover files when you uninstall through it. Very thorough and a very trustworthy and reputable software.

I always use Driver Sweeper to remove my drivers when making any changes. If I'm upgrading to a new version of driver... Boot into safe mode... driver sweeper... reboot... install new drivers. If I were going from AMD to nVidia... I'd definitely follow the same route. Sure, it'll probably work if you don't... however, I don't trust Windows to do the right thing. It's better than it used to be but it's still not perfect.
