    Yes.

You just have to select the correct device in "Playback Devices". You should have several options (Speakers, Digital Audio HDMI, Digital Audio SPDIF, Headphones, etc). The video signal can run independently through the HDMI cable while you have some other device handling the audio processing.

    Re: HDMI for video only?

I get all cables from Monoprice.com. I have dozens of pro audio cables, from XLR, balanced input, speakon, and power cables. In addition, I always get my HDMI, DVI to HDMI, subwoofer, component, etc. cables for home theater from Monoprice.com.

I do NOT believe in the quality of cable bull shit. As a guitar player and someone that has run live sound and have run full spectrum real time analyzers, any difference in analog cable quality is NOT noticeable by the human hear. I have tested expensive name brand cables vs the cheapest of the cheap. The main difference is durability. I have had several Monoprice XLR cables break within one year, which sucks. But I have many in reserve as they are so cheap to begin with.

Digital cables such as HDMI, you will be fine with the cheapest possible, as long as you are not plugging and unplugging the cables regularly. I have noticed with heavy removal, cheap cable connecters start to have issues. The signal quality is digital, so it either works, or it doesn't.

I like monoprice too. However, I have $17 credit at Newegg, and need to use it.

I don't buy into the quality stuff either.
