08-10-13, 12:16 PM #1Nexus 7 (2013) Issues.
I don't know how many of you have the new Nexus 7, but I've been having an unusual issue with mine. Previously, my battery was at 70% and it refused to boot, just stayed on the glowing X screen indefinitely. Nothing I did would get it past that screen until I did a factory reset.
Also, when the battery gets to about 30%, the boot up time extends considerably, and this morning at 15% battery, I had to plug it in to a charger in order to get past the boot cycle.
Does anyone with a Nexus 7 of either type have (or had) this problem? Is anyone more informed on this issue than me? I can work around the problem but it's quite annoying."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

Well, when I started it up just now, a shit ton of Google applications were updated in the notifications bar. Maybe when it starts up, it attempts to update any apps that it can before giving the user control. I'll keep an eye on it for now.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) Issues.
I got a new nexus 7 rather than go to quake con on Saturday... Only issue I've seen with it was when I first booted it up and ran through the setup process it rebooted after the 4.3 update installed and went to a black screen and wouldn't come out of it at all. I stuck it in the console of the car while I went about my business that day and about 20 minutes later I checked and it was fine. Haven't seen any issues with it since.
One thing I might ask is why do you turn it off? Mine hasn't been "off" since I got it. I plug it in every other night or so and that's it.
On long boot-ups though... if you are still having the issue after a factory reset then there's likely something wrong with it. Possibly memory issues. I'd return it for a new one.

I shut it off for the same reason I shut my computer down or turn off lights when I'm no longer using them. As long as they're on, no matter how little power they may use, they're still using power. At least off, only the backup battery is keeping track of time, keeping battery drain to a minimum.
I also don't use the tablet all the time, so I feel better about having it off for long periods of time than idle for long periods of time. Maybe I'm doing more harm than good because of the Flash memory. More read/writes on boot means less life and higher stress for the flash..."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."
