VS 2013 RC update error

I'm currently getting the following error when I go to check for updates using the extensions and updates tool:

For security reasons, DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing, set the DtDProcessing property on XmlReaderSettings to Parse and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method.

I tried Googling for a solution and found references to .net 3.5, but I'm pretty sure that's built into W7 SP1.

The error is not preventing me from using VS, but I can't update it. I think I can update the extensions I have though.

I'm using a fresh install of W7 SP1 and a fresh install of the VS 2013 RC.

Stupid question, have you tried disabling UAC and launching as admin?

You should never have to disable UAC. Disabling UAC is just opening yourself up to problems. I think .NET 3.5 is an optional install in win7. Go to programs and features in control panel and click on windows features and make sure it's installed. Should be 3.51SP1 or something like that if I remember right.

Eh, uac by its very nature is very obstructive for development (arguably even designed to be), especially with system related functions and experiemental development. I've had uac disabled since day 1 and had no problems but I'm also the kind of guy that has root kit tools ready and waiting on a near by usb drive...

MVS should install .net 2.0-.net 4.5. At least my vs2012 did; might be an option during install. If not, let me know, I THINK i have all the redist installers around somewhere... Check like kanati mentioned, or check the object browser in mvs in a .net project and look under components... will have list all the installed and registered .net versions.

Also I shouldnt have to ask but all of the software is legit, right?

Soooo...the .net files are all on my computer in the right directories, but only 4.x show up in CCleaner.

Every win 7 win 8 computer I have built for people I have gone to Microsoft's site to download .net 3.5. It has never installed by itself and lots of games and programs need it.

Mmmm...so it appears that everywhere I look, Everything below 4.x comes standard with W7 whether I read other forums or the install guides Microsoft has for .Net.

I don't think there's an update yet though so

Again... 3.51 is a windows "feature". It may not be installed by default but you CAN verify that by going to programs and features and choosing windows features. Make sure it's checked.
