Re: If I were to pull the trigger

I too will be getting a new card in the next couple of weeks, so I am watching this thread.

I just want to play BF4 with everything cranked at 1080P. I'd like to keep the cost in the $3-500 range. I currently have a 6950, so I think I would prefer an ATI/AMD to avoid having to do the Drive Sweep dance (I would most likely just wipe my SSD and start fresh.....again). Although, if the Nvidia cards are the way to go, I'd gladly go that route.

I think you should get an MSI GTX 570 twin frozer Dex. They are great for running the game on mostly high. I just happen have one for sale.

Huh? You can get a 780 for less than a 290x, let alone the 770...

The 280x however, is currently outperforming the 770 in BF4 benchmarks (well, depending on where you look I suppose) and costs around $20-$50 less.

Mantle enables even my humble 7870 to put everything on Ultra and play above 60fps. The only limiter is my CPU when I turn shadows up. You probably don't need more than a R9 270, but a 280/7970 GHz will do you just fine.

My only problem with making a recommendation right now is that 20nm dies are coming next year, so any card you get now is going to get obsoleted fast.

Not too concerned with future-proofing, just now-perfecting.

I built my rig last year (mostly), but excluded the vid card because it was decent enough, and I knew I would get a new one for BF4. Now, I just want the horsepower to full BF4 on Ultra and stay well-above 60fps.

So it looks like it would be between a 280 or a 770GTX. They both released new drivers specifically for BF3, so I guess we'll see which performs better.

I don't plan on CF or SLI right away, but I may down the road. It was the original plan with the 6950, but never came to pass, and now probably wouldn't be money well spent.

Get two Titans, dial everything up to 11, set it, and forget it!

Except Mantle isn't live yet for BF4, and won't be until December.

If you are even considering adding a second card later, don't go AMD. The overall experience they provide in CrossFire is dramatically poorer than 2 nVidia cards in SLI. I would only consider AMD for a single GPU solution.

Re: If I were to pull the trigger

You mentioned CF and SLI as well, Dex. ATI makes a great card for single gpu use. But nvidia/sli is much better when it comes to multi-gpu setups. If you are planning that route go with the 770.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.
