Beware Crypyolocker. For all the IT Admins

Had someone get pegged with this on their personal computer. Be on the look out and be sure to have back-ups. There are things you can do to slow it down in case someone on your network gets it. It will encrypt files on mapped network drives. Here is a link to more info on it. This is one that can really screw you up.

They even have an online service to decrypt your files that only costs the low low price of 20 bitcoins. This can affect shit tons of file types (even stuff like autocad files). It is very nasty.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Yeah, and the current price of Bitcoins is outrageous. Last I looked it was like $230-$240 per coin.

People are going crazy over this thing. I really hope this doesn't effect anyone in a production environment. This would really screw someone up. Man, if this were to get on an admins machine, riots and chaos would ensue.

OK, I just checked on the price of Bitcoins. $284 and some change. That would be ~$2840 to get the private key to decrypt your files. They are charging 10-15 bitcoins. These guys are going to have some people by the short and curlies.

I think we got an early variant of this one. Didn't encrypt files or at least if it did, it also hid them and changed their attributes.

Cleaned the infected machines (i.e. wiped) and restored files from backup...

When this happened, we didn't know who's computer. Each user has a "personal" network drive so I recommended we scan those for the odd files which helped us track down the bad machines.

Sigh. Morons opening attachments from people they don't know...

We had one at work a few weeks ago.. Had to restore from cloud backup one of the folders he had access to on our share.

The worst part is when you use google drive as a folder, skydrive as a folder, or dropbox as a folder...

Preventable with good GPOs. But I would still like to find these assholes that pull this shit. I hate it when good things are abused by criminals. PKI, encryption, and even bitcoins are good things.
