Re: A Plead For Help!!!
AetheLove recounts a story of sublime glory:
When I was a novice, my sensei directed me to the AI Koans. There, in the company of much wisdom, was the following told:
Tom Knight and the Lisp Machine:
A novice was trying to fix a broken Lisp machine by turning the power off and on.
Knight, seeing what the student was doing, spoke sternly: “You cannot fix a machine by just power-cycling it with no understanding of what is going wrong.”
Knight turned the machine off and on.
The machine worked.
Many years later, I was visiting my old home. My mother was having trouble with the fluorescent light under the cupboards in the kitchen. She was flicking the switch off and on, but the light was not coming on.
Remembering the wisdom of the ancients, I said to my honoured mother:
"Mother. You can not simply turn the switch off and on hoping that the light will come on. You must understand what is going on."
My mother stepped aside.
I flipped the switch off.
I flipped the switch on.
The light came on.
Beaming at my mother, her mouth agape, I hid behind a blank smile and silently thanked my sensei and every God I ever knew (by every name they ever had) for having an epic sense of humour.
Cheers,

If it makes you feel any better I just spent the last 5 hours troubleshooting my video card as well. My wife apparently sold off a bunch of old kids toys and stuff she didn't want/need anymore and bought me an "unopened but slightly damaged box" R9 280x for $260 to replace my 79070 that my kids fried a few months back(long story - wife is awesome). It came in today...I immediately plug it in, try to install drivers, nothing. I just ran windows update to try and see if it's a .NET framework or C+++ redist issue....turns out I have a 780 GTX ....for $260....
What she ordered ordered(from Amazon...this link came up first): Newegg.com - ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 Radeon R9 280X 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
What I got: Newegg.com - ASUS GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5 GeForce GTX 780 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
I didn't get any games with them...I suppose I can live with that.
