Yeah, the issue is that a lot of the cheap 30" 16:10 monitors are dogs or unknown quantitites. Then there is the Dell U3014 which has issues. The only 30" 16:10 monitors I am sure of are the HP zr30w and the NEC PA302 series which is out of my price range for now.

Ed. Part of the reason for my choice of the ASUS is that I am going to pay a premium for a good gamut for sRBG and Adobe RBG.

CES had some 2560 x 1440 res monitors at 120Hz with NVIDIA GSYNC. I was reading fantastic things about them. I would hate losing the beautiful picture of the IPS panel, but getting 120Hz and GSYNC for $899 could be pretty awesome.

Either way, I am holding out a few months for these new products to launch before upgrading my monitors.

4k monitors are going to start making a presence but I'm not sure all that detail and resulting lower FPS would be worth the premium. Also, you have to be careful with refresh rates. 60 is the highest at 4k resolutions but some only do 30hz at 4k resolutions...

Any that only do hdmi 1.4 will only do 30hz. If they support hdmi 2.0 they should do 60.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

Of course pushing UHD or 4K with a single video card is going to be..... problematic.

The interesting thing about 4k is the size problem, for image editing 4k with color correction wins even at 30hz, but you will not see a whole lot more unless your face is right next to the screen if you try to use it for gaming.

It cracked me up when Alienware sent me an ad for 4K gaming. Ummm, pass... $1,300 for the monitor alone...

Looked up some benchmarks on it today. Holy Crap Batman! FPS drop is crazy.
